UGA football

Uga memorial
There is Uga

Stanford Stadium is awesome and the place really buzzes on game days

The quarterback (Stafford) and running back (Morino) always get all the attention.

High School Football in Georgia

People always told me that football in the south was bigger than life. After living here, I know what they mean. We are truly in football country.
We (Warner Robins) had a big game this past Friday against our cross town rivals, Northside High School. Northside is nationally ranked and they have 3 D1 recruits on the defensive side of the ball (both defensive ends and one line backer). In the past, this game has drawn ESPN and many news stations from all over the south to cover this event.
For high school games, I had never seen such a following of tailgate parties in the stadium parking lot and the enormity of the stadium and facilities, including their own jumbo screen on the scoreboard that they would show stats, replays, player profiles and other information.
Some major things I like most was that each game is started with prayer, stadium wide pledge of allegiance and of course the national anthem. Something that is very different from the game we had in the west.

Here is a shot of the WR offense and NS defense. The stadium has two identical sideline stands and then people fill in all around the grass areas at the ends. The place is packed.

The Demons of Warner Robins

Us.
Them.

We have big bands, the naked boys (this week, B is the S) and the naked girls.

Warner Robins Invitational

K finished 22 out of 52 girls. Her time was 19:47. And she learned from the last race and got an earlier kick at the end and passed a couple girls at the end.

Warner Robins Invitational

B finished 27th of 272 boys. Finished in the top 10%. He again finished with a strong kick at the end.

B at Bleckley County XC

B in his pre-race huddle and chant...then he came in 30th out of 250 boys. He had an awesome kick at the end where he passed this guy and one other before the finish line.

K at Blakely County XC meet

K's first XC meet. She did fantastic. Out of 80 girls, she came in 29th. She stayed ahead of her friend through the entire race until her friend beat her to the kick at the end. But she made up some ground. She is getting stronger every week and is really starting to enjoy running and the competition. Here she is with some of the girls on her team. The one on the left came in 1st place.

Summer thunder storms in the South

We have really enjoyed the Summer Thunder Storms here in the south. We will get as much annual rain fall here as Oregon, only ours comes in a few storms rather than 9 months of on-going rain. It is fairly typical that we will get 1-2 inches in only about 5 min.

B's road race

On August 9th, B ran the Jim Herrin Road Race in Warner Robins, GA. It was a 5k (3.1 miles) race. He finished 11th out of 221 people and 4th in his age group with a time of 19:42.

New Law in Warner Robins

Last week, there was a law passed in Warner Robins that prohibits britches being below the underwear line and having your underwear hang out more than 3 inches. The penalty for breaking this law is a $500 fine and/or 6 months in the pokey.

Weekend in Atlanta

We took a Saturday trip to Atlanta and had a blast. We saw so many cool things. We visited the Olympic park in downtown (this is also he site where the bombing took place). I really liked how family friendly the downtown of Atlanta is. There is sooooo much to do and the place is crawling with families with kids. In one general area, they have the World of Coke, Georgia Aquarium, Olympic park, Turner, Phillips Arena and the Georgia Dome (with Turner Field not too far away).

The world of Ted Turner

We visited the world of Turner Broadcasting which includes CNN, CNN Headline News, TBS, TNT, TrueTV, Cartoon Network, TMC and Boomerang. It was fascinating.

World of Coke

It was pretty interesting. We visited the world of Coke (which for many Mormons is a mecca). We saw how coke is made and marketed. We got to taste over 60 Coke products from around the world. Did you know the Mormon Church owns Coca-Cola?

Well some of us tan more than others...We are still trying to figure out why T looks half mexican. Maybe it is that wonderful Southern Sunshine...(having sun more than 3 months out of the year is an interesting concept to us coming from Oregon).

We love the southern summer thunder storms. We got about 1" of rain in about 5 min.

Family Trip to Savannah, GA on the weekend of July 4th.
